What was the challenge/problem addressed?
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests (IDF) σε 2012. The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests.
On each International Day of Forests, countries are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns. The theme for each International Day of Forests is chosen by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests.

Σε 2024, the theme is “Forests and innovation: New solutions for a better world”.

It is a call to action to harness technological innovations for our forests to address the growing threat of deforestation, habitat degradation and climate change.

Key messages of this year’s campaign include: forest monitoring systems to monitor and report on forests; technological innovations, such as drones, are key in the fight against forest fires and deforestation; mapping and safeguarding ancestral lands can conserve their biodiversity; and forest products help create alternatives to sustainable materials such as steel, plastics and synthetic fibres.
