Data analysis in agriculture represents today a significant challenge throughout the production process. The variety, speed, and volume at which data are produced in some companies make traditional methods of data processing insufficient for optimal decision-making. To address the challenge of converting data into valuable information for farmers’ decision-making processes, we combined our advisory expertise with Power BI. This alliance enabled the automation of data transformation, providing farmers with customized dashboards tailored to their specific needs.
On one hand, our platform, AGROBI, aims to gather a comprehensive array of data pertinent to farm operations, commercial activities, financial metrics, stock management, and other relevant factors. Adicionalmente, we incorporate external data sources such as market prices for agricultural products, weather data, and benchmarks for expected productivity or operations, adding further value for end-users.
Por otro lado, the effectiveness of AGROBI as a service hinges on the end-user’s ability to integrate the dashboards into their daily decision-making processes. To meet this challenge, we employ an iterative methodology in dashboard development, allowing farmers to articulate their information requirements. This ensures that the final product addresses farmers’ genuine needs while accommodating varying levels of IT proficiency.
Presently, we’re in the process of developing standardized starting dashboards to facilitate farmers’ feedback. This iterative approach enables us to efficiently create custom dashboards tailored to individual needs, thereby expediting AGROBI’s development and enhancing its ability to cater to farmers’ specific information requirements.

Farm scale matters: We discovered that the perceived value added from AGROBI was greater on medium to large farms compared to smaller ones. Decision support tools like AgroBI had a more significant impact on day-to-day operations in larger-scale agricultural enterprises.
Targeting specific challenges within the farm: Instead of addressing the entire farm or business management, focusing on specific challenges within the farm proved to be more successful. Tailoring the solution to address specific pain points led to a more effective end product.
Handing over final dashboards and promoting end user “independence”: We encountered challenges in promoting end user independence from AgroBI developers after handing over the final dashboards. Ensuring that users were proficient in utilizing the dashboards independently proved to be a challenge requiring ongoing support and training.
Being specific on final dashboard results: It became apparent that being very specific about the final results of the dashboards was crucial. Engaging in iterative development cycles with end users often led to a continuous desire to add more features. Establishing clear objectives and endpoints for the dashboards helped manage expectations and streamline development processes.
