¿Cuál fue el desafío/problema abordado??

The main purposes of GENFORED are:

1.- Provide a permanent headquarters for the secure storage of data obtained from genetic testing of forest species

2.- Promote the exchange of data between institutions to multiply its value and promote the dissemination of results, y

3.- Facilitate the exchange of information and the application of common validated protocols for the installation and measurement of forest genetic assays.

¿Cómo resolviste el problema??

GENFORED is the Spanish network of forest genetic tests. It is coordinated by the INIA Forestry Research Center and the Aragon Agri-Food Research and Technology Center (CITA). It integrates data from field trials (mi. provenance, progeny and clonal) of the main Iberian species (Mediterranean pines, holm oaks, beech and poplar). These trials are owned or managed by different institutions (INIA, CITA, SERIDA, MITECO and the forestry services of the autonomous regions of Castille and León, Aragón, Andalusia and Valencia).

These activities are co-financed with funds from MITECO and EAFRD.

¿Qué es innovador en su caso práctico??

Metadata about the tests and the materials tested can be consulted on the tests and materials tested page (in development phase).

Simple results and reports, consisting of basic statistics (means, standard deviations, etc.) can be obtained freely on the server data page.

¿Cuáles son los factores de éxito para resolver el problema??

The data must meet some requirements before being integrated into the database. It is expected that the data have been thoroughly reviewed by the responsible investigator prior to integration to ensure that measurement errors are kept to a minimum and identification is correct corresponding to the experimental design used. All necessary information about the trial location, The experimental design and material characteristics of the plant must be delivered to GENFORED for integration into the metadata module.

This work is developed by the Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA) and the Center for Agri-Food Research and Technology of Aragon (CITA) and has been partially financed by the unique strategic project of the Ministry of Science and Innovation «Forest Restoration and Management » PSE-3100000 within the “Forests of the Future” subproject.
