Quel était le défi/problème abordé?
In Latvia, one of the main sources of greenhouse gases (GHG) is agriculture, which accounts for 24% of all national GHG emissions. Latvia is the country with the second largest proportion of agricultural GHG emissions in the European Union.
Comment as-tu résolu le problème?
With a help of CRAFT LIFE project in five years period many partners such as Latvian nature fond, advisory service and scientists have learned to reduce the amount of GHG emissions from agricultural production. The project practically tested and demonstrated three different methods that allow reducing CO2 and other GHG emissions – semis direct, biochar incorporation into the soil and controlled drainage.
Ce qui est innovant dans votre cas pratique?
The LIFE CRAFT project will practically test and demonstrate three different methods that have so far been little used in Latvia – no-tillage, biochar incorporation into the soil and controlled drainage, which allow to reduce CO2 and other GHG emissions, introduce them to Latvian farmers and collect practical recommendations for the application of these methods directly in Latvia conditions. One of the projects goal was creating an easy accessible and understandable a guide (hand-book) for farmers “Practices to mitigate climate change”, what was successful.
Quels sont les facteurs de succès pour résoudre le problème?
One of the main success factors was – realizing that we really have such a problem to deal with. Also cooperation between the parties involved was crucial.
Échecs inattendus, si seulement
In this case process were really smooth and results useful and also really promising for the future agriculture.
Leçons apprises
Common goal between the parties is necessity.
Quel rôle joue le conseiller ou le service de conseil dans le cas pratique
Advisory service was there in almost every step. Organizing, coordinating, studying, practicing and monitoring the results and also making hand-book for farmers and other advisers.
Votre approche peut-elle être transférée et/ou adaptée à d'autres défis d'innovation et régions?
Oui.
