Kāds bija izaicinājums/ problēma, kas tika risināta?

The promotion of organic farming is a key objective of the sustainability strategies of the federal and state governments. A goal that is to be achieved through packages of measures. For Bavaria, the fields of action were defined in the state programme BioRegio 2030 state programme i.e., The sates want to convert 30% of farms into organic farms by 2030. Tāpēc, the one starting point here is the resumption and expansion of the education campaign for organic farming. An initiative that uses targeted education to impart knowledge and skills in relation to organic farming and the production and marketing of organic products.

Regarding this project, the main challenge was and is to generate more awareness and knowledge regarding organic farming and the processing of organically produced materials in the vocational education of the craft-based food industry. Hence the central objective of the organic farming education campaign is to work with various organisations to promote the sustainable teaching of ecological content in training in the food trade and green professions and in this way to develop knowledge and skills relating to organic farming and the production and marketing of organic products. In a first step, the focus was placed on fruit and vegetable growing and, in the food trade, on the professions of baker, butcher and chef.

Kā jūs atrisinājāt problēmu?

At first the contact to the educational institutions for the addressed professions as well as training institutions for the teachers is essential. We try to include topics around the organic farming and the processing of organically produced materials in teacher trainings. Turklāt, we create an eco-module for the master baker course. It´s all about education units and educational materials.

In the first steps, the project was marked with extensive research regarding the following:

  • What are the educational structures in the focussed professions?
  • Is organic farming and organic food processing already anchored in the curricula?
  • Who are the main contacts, and which educational institutions play a role?

These research areas has enabled the project to stay focus on the main goal.

Kas ir novatorisks jūsu praktiskajā gadījumā?

Provision of in-depth insight into organic farming practice and support the transfer of knowledge between organic farmers and the food industry as well as other multipliers in organic farming. In additions young trainees from the fields of agriculture, home economics and the food trade come to close contact with organic farming in practice during their training.

Kādi ir veiksmes faktori problēmas risināšanā?

There will be increased awareness among trainees on the necessary knowledge regarding organic farming and future activities that will enable them to participate successfully in the organic market.

In solving the problem,it will be possible to bring more organic products to consumers´ table through education campaign for organic farming hence meeting the high demand for organic food.

Trainees have been able to learn what organic farming involve and the principles arround it.

They heve been able to understand the organic farming and products regulations and the crtification process that goes hand in hand with the production of organic food as well as how the organic product markets operates.

We have come to realise that strengthening the integration of organic into the trade professions is very important for the trainees who want to start or continue with farming,this helps them understand the organic farming more and also links them to the trade market for organic products.

The different professions are all organized differently and because of this every single target group have to be handled in different ways and there are different starting points anchoring more topics of organic farming and the processing of organically produced materials in the education.

There main work is to organise and conduct some workshops to the trainees hand in hand with the reasearchers.
