Kāds bija risinājums/problēma?

In order to monitor the motion, geolocation and other environmental parameters of Hungarian Grey Cattle, especially the high value breeding bulls, put on the herds wandering around large areas of the Hungarian Kiskunság Puszta (national reserve), a durable, long lasting and long distance solution was developed based on IoT technology, by LoRaWAN radio communication. The tracking of the animal is important for effective grazing management, breeding, health status checking and administrativerecord keepingpurposes. The sensor-gateway system is part of a complex advisory service package providing numerous functionalities, including an online software for real time visualizing several parameters of the tracked animal and devices using map and chart views, integrated with a breeding management information system and a farm logbook platform, also connected to the national bovine identification registry.

Kādi ir veiksmes faktori problēmas risināšanā?

Critical factors have mainly arisen from the challenges within the innovation process, as described below.

For the introduction of the innovation at a wider and broader level, the mentality of farmers to be open for new approaches and methods, are also found to be critical.

The legislative environment affects the successful adoption too, piemēram, no 18 Jūlijs 2019, the digital identification (using ‘electronic ear tags’) became possible by EU law.

What were the main challenges during the innovation process?

Technological challengeoptimizing the usage of the tracker battery (supported by the recharging solar panel), with respect to the frequency of radio communication, the type of sensors used and data transmitted; the size, weight and durability of the device;

Economic challengefinding the right balance between functionality and cost-effectiveness (affordability against the offered benefits), at the level of the device, and the whole advisory service package;

Farm management challengeintegrating the service with the existing information system components at the farm and government levels (interoperability approach).

Kāda loma ir konsultantam vai konsultatīvajam dienestam ar praktisko lietu?

Knowledge awareness and exchange, Advisory, consultancy and backstopping aimed at solving complex problems, to be provided during the innovation process and based on demands of actors and the co-construction of solutions, Demand articulation, to allow actors to have access to new ideas, identify their needs, define their objectives and express clear demands to other actors, Capacity building, aimed at increasing innovation actors’ capacities in order to play their roles in the innovation process, Scaling up the innovation to increase the uptake by a broader group
