What was the challenge/problem addressed?

The main goal of the project is to form a bridge between farmers and the R&D sector and give a helping in knowledge transfer. There is a large scale of ready-to-use (but not used) new techniques and innovations to reduce the very vulnerable market situation and raise the profitability in sheep breeding. On the other hand, the mediator actor is currently missing and there is a lack of knowledge-transfer in Hungary. The number of the registered agricultural advisors and instructors could mean a solid basis to improve the knowledge-transfer and innovation in the sector. The advisors and other players have a demand for interactive, practice-oriented trainings, etc., but as long as the advisors do not possess appropriate methodological competences, there is no efficient knowledge-transfer towards the farmers.

What are the success factors in solving the problem?

Extension’s present dysfunction in Hungary: operation and structure of extension in Hungarian sheep breeding and its long-ago unserviceability.

What were the main challenges during the innovation process?

Transformation the farmers’ way of thinking, increasing their professional knowledge with the cooperation of higher education and advisory network. Existing external circumstances and influencing factors (market, economy, etc.).

What role does the advisor or advisory service play with the practical case?

Knowledge awareness and exchange, Networking facilitation and brokerage, to help organize or strengthen networks, improve the relationships between key actors and to align services in order to be able to complement each other
