What was the challenge/problem addressed?

The challenge was to improve the use of plant protection products. By using the latest technology it was proposed to use a combination of a comercial hardware with an APP (Dovasiña) developed by University Politécnica de Catalunya to implement variable rate application in vineyard, based on canopy.

How did you solve the problem?

Yes, the problem was solved and the development has been commercially implemented in several wineries in Spain

What is innovative in your practical case?

It is a technological innovation as trough a good combination of private company and public university it has been possible to improve the use of PPP, reducing the amount of pesticide according F2F.

What are the success factors in solving the problem?

The implemented APP (Dosaviña) has been carefully developed by UPC with success. It has been developed a new software to combine Dosaviña with Watic. Canopy maps have been obtained with UAV.

Lessons learned

A good combination of already available technologies with a proper training of end users allow to implement in a practical and comercial way, easy and accessible develpment to reduce the amount of PPP

What role does the advisor or advisory service play with the practical case?

From technical point of view, the project was developed through the collaboration between public universities and private companies. The advisory service did not participate in the technical aspects.

Can your approach be transferred and/or adapted for other innovation challenges and regions?

Yes

Estimated transferability on a scale from 1 to 5

(where 1 is easy and 5 very difficult)

3
