What was the challenge/problem addressed?

This project aims to determine the most efficient and sustainable treatment to control the disease of the needles bands of pine trees, with the evaluation of innovative methods used in other countries, as well as those developed by our research centers

How did you solve the problem?

Execution of tests and evaluation of results on trees and on surface water and soil in the area.

What is innovative in your practical case?

Innovation in products and technologies for the application of forest disease prevention products and the dissemination of results.

What are the success factors in solving the problem?

Support from specialised technology centres and support from forest producers’ organisations.

Lessons learned

The combination of technical and scientific support with forest managers made the results very solid. It is possible to establish preventive measures against forest diseases that are effective and do not cause any damage to the environment.

What role does the advisor or advisory service play with the practical case?

The support of the technical and scientific team and the leadership of the project leader was fundamental to the success of the project.

Can your approach be transferred and/or adapted for other innovation challenges and regions?

Yes

Estimated transferability on a scale from 1 to 5

(where 1 is easy and 5 very difficult)
