What was the challenge/problem addressed?

The permanence and activity of rural women are essential for the economic and social development of the territory. The awards of excellence for innovation by rural women have constituted one of the lines of recognition of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), projects and careers of rural women.

How did you solve the problem?

The objective of the excellence awards for innovation for rural women is to contribute to the recognition of original and innovative projects by rural women, based on agricultural, fishing or aquaculture and complementary activities, in activities that contribute to the diversification of the economic activity that promote women’s entrepreneurship in the territory, as well as activities or actions that recognize their work in rural areas.

What is innovative in your practical case?

These awards are structured into 5 categories:

1. “Excellence in innovation in agricultural activity” with first, second and third prize.

2. “Excellence in innovation in fishing or aquaculture activity” with first, second and third prize.

3. “Excellence in innovation in diversification of economic activity in rural areas” with first, second and third prize.

4. “Excellence in communication” with first, second and third prize.

5. “Special recognition for the career linked to supporting women in rural areas and rural fishing areas” with an honorary recognition.

What are the success factors in solving the problem?

Competition between innovative women is stimulated and their innovative projects are given visibility.

Lessons learned

The annual awards call aims to distinguish new, excellent, original and innovative projects and actions that recognize the work and role of women in rural areas, as well as to promote the incorporation and employment of women in the territory.

What role does the advisor or advisory service play with the practical case?

The advisor can make the existence of these awards known among rural women so that their innovative activities and projects will not be forgotten. This advisor can be a key element in transmitting the legacy.
