What was the challenge/problem addressed?
The challenge addressed through the project entitled: “Maximizing the efficiency of olive groves using an innovative precision spraying system” was to apply precision spraying techniques in olive groves in order to achieve the best possible results for the spraying of trans-fertilizers and the best possible time for spraying.
How did you solve the problem?
Precision spraying on the olive crop will be achieved by incorporating ultrasonic sensors into the sprayer attachment and utilizing weather forecasting data from DSS software.
What is innovative in your practical case?
The application of innovative precision agriculture methods is a key aspect in our specific scenario. Given the significance of olive trees for Greece, employing novel techniques to enhance production and minimise the cost of spraying solutions will be beneficial.
What are the success factors in solving the problem?
The regional cooperation between the partners, the collection of weather forecasting data the crop period and the testing of the ultrasonic sensors.
Lessons learned
Farmers and cooperatives are increasingly intrigued by the incorporation of new technologies and smart agricultural practices into their production methods.
What role does the advisor or advisory service play with the practical case?
The regional advisory service plays a key role in coordinating this initiative, with farmers turning to them for guidance.
Can your approach be transferred and/or adapted for other innovation challenges and regions?
Yes
Estimated transferability on a scale from 1 to 5
