Project goals

– Contribution to the development of a national control strategy;

– Elaboration of practical measures to prevent the spread and carry-over;

– Develop recommendations for the reporting and mapping of infested areas;

– Testing the effectiveness and practicability of remediation measures;

– Promote interdisciplinary cooperation between all actors;

– Showing positive examples of control;

– To bring experience with Yellow nutsedge into the discussion on how to deal with problematic non-quarantine organisms.

What are the success factors in solving the problem?

– It requires the cooperation of all actors involved (research, cantonal agricultural extension services, agric. associations, producer organizations and farmers);

– All actors agreed that the spread of these weed must be controlled.

What were the main challenges during the innovation process?

• The method of control is not very simple, It takes a combination of several control measures to achieve a good result;

• It is a very difficult plant to fight and to control;

• Many actors in the project, much need for coordination.

What role does the advisor or advisory service play with the practical case?

Networking facilitation and brokerage, to help organize or strengthen networks, improve the relationships between key actors and to align services in order to be able to complement each other, Scaling up the innovation to increase the uptake by a broader group
